كارخانه فولاد مسقط در عمان قصد دارد با راه اندازی كارخانه دوم خود در ماه مارس توليد ميلگرد را دو برابر كند. ظرفيت كنونی اين كارخانه سالانه 150 هزار تن می باشد و قرار است به 300 هزار تن برسد و اين به معنی نياز به تأمين بيشتر شمش است. پيشتر نيمی از نياز اين كارخانه به شمش از فولادسازان داخلی تأمين میشده و بقيه را از اكراين، تركيه و برزيل وارد میكرده است و از سال 2014 خريداران شمش در منطقه خليج فارس علاقه به واردات از ايران و چين هم دارند. و البته كشورهای CIS هم همچنان در بازار حضور دارند.

 

Muscat steel to double rebar capacity in March

Omani rebar producer Muscat Steel Industries (MSI) plans to commission in March a second rebar mill to double its capacity of the product, a company source tells Kallanish
Rebar production capacity will rise to 300,000 tonnes/year from the current 150,000 t/y, meaning the steelmaker will need to return to sourcing billet from the merchant market. MSI has been using captive semi-finished product since it commissioned in the second half of 2014 its own 200,000 t/y electric arc furnace-based billet plant
The source of billet will depend on price and availability. Previously the firm procured half its requirement from local steelmakers, while the balance came from Ukraine, Turkey and Brazil. Since 2014 Persian Gulf billet buyers have mainly favoured supplies from Iran and China, although the CIS remains a presence. Regional merchant billet mills have also entered the picture, such as Sohar-based Jindal Shadeed and Abu Dhabi-based Persian Gulf Steel Industries
MSI, located in Rusayl, on the outskirts of Muscat, sells rebar only in the local market. Demand has taken a hit since lower oil prices reduced government spending on steel-consuming projects, but the firm is hopeful for the future, the source says
Competition in Oman’s rebar market will be tight, however. Besides MSI, Hadid Majan has a 200,000 t/y rebar re-rolling capacity based in Rusayl, while Sohar Steel and Jazeera Steel have 900,000 t/y and 70,000 t/y rebar capacity respectively in Sohar. Also in Sohar, Jindal Shadeed commissioned last year a 1.4 million t/y rebar mill, while Moon Iron & Steel Company plans to launch by end-2018 a 1.1m t/y rebar mill
